Sixteen years ago I had the extreme luck to find someone with whom I have shared a journey. The road we have chosen is not one that your friends and family could ever imagine. Over the years, we have met so many great people that have the same ideology. We have learned from our friends and had experiences that neither of us could have imagined in the beginning.
We met at a bar in NYC. she looked beautiful sitting at the table next to me. Our eyes met on may occasions I had to strike up a conversation with her. she was fairly new in this country and was out with friends from work. I, too, was with colleagues. My friends had plans after the bar that I didn't care for so I asked her group if they would mind if a stranger tagged along with them. I'll never forget that night there were fireworks celebrating Independence day and we went to see it from the Brooklyn side of the East River. It was immediately apparent that we were on the same page. We joked as though we knew each other for years. We enjoyed the same music and so many other things. We felt we were kindered souls just waiting for the right time and place to meet.
Well, it happened that night in the bar.
Not wanting this one to get away, I immediately made plans to see her two days later. We met after work for a date. We did all the things a couple might do while courting; movies, dinners etc.
It was at one of these dinners that the relationship we now share was kindled. After closing a sidewalk cafe in Greenwich Village at something like 3am, I took her back to her apartment by cab. In the back of this cab, we continued talking and getting more and more acquainted with each other.
Then it happened. she asked me the types of nightclubs I frequented. Now you should understand, I was curious about the BDSM scene for a while and had recently started to check out the NYC scene. So my answer, almost without thought, was that I went to fetish clubs. Biting my lip as it escaped my mouth, I hoped I didn't just screw up a potentially great relationship. The response was one that to this day still resounds in my head, and has forever changed my life:

"CAN YOU TAKE ME THERE?"
I was at once stunned and elated. We continued the discussion for the duration of the ride. Unfortunately, it ended too soon, we had arrived at her apartment. We made plans to meet for lunch the following day.
As I continued my trip home that night, my thoughts raced wildly. How, among all of the women in New York City, had I become so lucky to find my match. Again it became clear to me: KINDERED SOULS.
